I Heard There Would be Cake? A ‘Portal: Still Alive’ (XBLA) Review!
Desolation. You wake up in a sterile room, encased in glass. Before you can quite get oriented, an electronic female voice announces that you are part of a scientific test. There are guns, acidic death pools, talking turrets, and emotion inducing boxes. The voice announces that the tests are ready to begin, and before you appears a gelatinous blue opening. With a deep breath, you take a step through. You notice that time and space appears to have bent, as you exit in sight of the entrance just in time to catch a glimpse at the back of your orange jumpsuit. All appears to be well, as you haven’t turned inside out, or exploded yet. You’re Still Alive.

Mirror’s Edge and NVidia Freerun Together for PC Version
When games developed for consoles make the leap to PC, it’s not always as graceful of a leap. Often times the game is given a quick port. Luckily some games go beyond this. Mirror’s Edge appears to be improved from the console versions, with the fact that the physics in the world are greatly improved. Not to say the console version don’t have great physics, but the following video shows some good examples of the upgrades.
Very impressive.

Black Mesa: Source Set for 2009; Yields Amazing Trailer!
Speaking of fan devotion, the Half Life 2 mod scene has come up with some amazing work in the past. However, this project stands out from the rest, as it has been in production for four years now. Not satisfied with Half-Life: Source, a large group of fans set out to recreate the original game in the Half-Life 2 Source engine.
Fears that Valve might shut the project down still exist somewhat, but with the hard work yielding such awesome results, I find it unlikely.
I look forward to my return to Black Mesa next year.

Good Old Games – Digital Distribution at it’s Finest
Before you go all “STEAM IS TEH ROXXZ0RZ” on my ass, let me first say this is NOT a replacement for Steam, but rather a supplement, like the cold glass of milk you take with your delicious bowl of Cookie Crisps.
If you are one of the thousands of PC gamers affected by DRM woes such as activation limits and that SecuROM bull crap, and like cheap games then Good Old Games is definitely for you. I’ve had the pleasure of watching this site grow from a small private beta to what it is now, a public beta with a catalogue of over 50 quality, DRM-free games priced from $5.99 to $9.99 with new arrivals every Tuesday. Everything about GOG is sexy- the website, the forums, the nifty downloader, and even the game installers have been tricked out for maximum sexy. Just go there for yourself and be blown away by the clean and easy to use interface that they’ve whipped up.
