Preview-Wii Pointer Demo
This will be a short preview because the demo was over in a minute in a half.
The demo has you shooting ducks, targets, clay pidgeons, and UFO’s. There are 4 rounds, and it looks like the game (if it turns out to be anything beyond a tech demo) will support custom Mii Characters.
The game was fun, but the controls felt too sensitive. I had to hold the Wiimote with 2 hands to keep it steady.

Preview-Warioware: Smooth Moves
This game is f-ing genius.
This was my third game to play. I was in line to play Metriod Prime 3, but I saw that no one was playing Warioware. I go over to play it and the rep looked happy that someone actually wanted to play. It’s WariowareWii! Of course I want to play!
I don’t remember which mini-game came first, but I’ll explain the ones I played.
-One has you holding the Wiimote like a paper airplane, and use it to put dentures into an old woman’s mouth. You position the Wiimote to line up with her mouth, and push forward.
-Another has you holding the Wiimote like handlebars and giving a young lad a double high-five. You push forward fast, and the boy goes flying. You will laugh.
-Another mini-game that uses the Wiimote like handlebars has you inflating a balloon to pop. You pump it up and down.
-One way you will hold the Wiimote in is called ‘Umbrella’. I’m sure you can figure out what that one looks like. One game to use ‘Umbrella’ had you shaking the Wiimote to get ants off of a banana. You could feel the rumble in this one.
-Another ‘Umbrella’ game had good ol’ 8 bit Mario standing under a coin block. Even though you are only supposed to pump your arm in the air, I found it much more enjoyable to jump.
-The next action (i believe) was called ‘The big kahuna’. It has you holding the Wiimote at your waist. One game had you hula- hooping, which was both embarrassing and pretty fun. The other game to use the ‘Big Kahuna’ had you as a little girl jump roping. You had to jump at the right time or you fall.
-The classic nose picking is back, and you hold the Wiimote like a paper airplane again. You postition the finger and push toward the nostril. The graphics were very wireframe-esque.
-One other that has you holding the Wiimote like handlebar’s has a character on top of a ball and you have to keep them from losing their balance by turning the Wiimote in the right direction to keep them on the ball.
- My 2 favorites were holding the Wiimote face up in my hand and getting a highfive from a Nintendog, and fishing in Animal Crossing.
-The Demo ends with a “boss battle”. You have to steer a car, and stay on the road while avoiding Sheep, monkeys, elephants, and bears. It’s interesting to note that if you tilt the controller forward during that mini-game, the car will bug out and crash.

So that was my time with Warioware: Smooth Moves. It was one of the best games I played at the show. That’s why it hurt even more that it was delayed until 2007. But I plan on buying it the day it comes out.

Preview- Excitetruck (Wii)
This was the second game I played on the Wii. To play i, you hold the Wiimote like an NES controller, and tilt it like a steering wheel. But this isn’t your average racing game.

The demo features 3 playable courses, a handful of trucks/SUV’s, and tons colors for your cars. You start the race with a rolling start. You quickly find a boost, which made me crack up with laughter. The speed in this game is intense. Seconds after I found the first boost, I found an exclamation point marker that took the ground right out from under my tires. I had to land the truck right by tilting the Wiimote to even out the truck.

You’ll find yourself laughing hysterically when you nearly fall when leaning in to turns. This game just feels good, and it was the game I kept coming back to play.

I highly recommend checking this one out.

Preview- Wii Sports (Bowling, Boxing, Baseball, Tennis)
I have played the Wii.
After playing Tony Hawk, Excitetruck, and Warioware, I ventured down the stairs of the LC Pavillion to play some Wii Sports.
The first one I played was Bowling. After the pretty Nintendo rep helped me get set up, I found myself right in the Bowling alley. I found the controls quite interesting. You use the D-Pad to move left and right, or you hit A then the D-pad changes to aim. You hold the Wii remote like a remote, hold the B trigger down, and do a swooping motion at the screen. Your Mii character bowls. Simple. It was pretty fun.

Then I moved down the line to Boxing. This was my first time holding the Nunchuk attachment. It feels very light, but the joystick feels very nice. The controls basically set both the Wiimote and Nunchuk as boxing gloves. When the match started I took a swing with the Wiimote, and nothing happened. I tried the Nunchuk and I landed a perfect shot. The Wiimote would respond, but the Nunchuks where the hits came from. It felt like what I was doing took a short time to translate to the screen. The fact that it was the first multiplayer Wii game turned out to be perfect. It feels good to hit people on screen. The rumble is weak, but it was timed perfectly.

I moved then to Baseball which was also multiplayer. One player pitches by slashing down on the screen, and the other swings the Wiimote like a bat. The level of detail in the motions with the bat were superb. You could even bunt. This was easily my favorite of the sports. When you get a hit, the Mii character runs to first base. You can load up the bases and hit a homerun for massive damage.

I went finally to play Tennis. This was also multiplayer. I served the ball by flicking the Wiimote upward and swinging it forward. At first you feel like you should swing forward, but quickly you learn that if the ball is heading toward your left, swing to the left. Not unlike Rockstar Table Tennis (360) the movement is taken care of for you. Just swing.

Overall, the time I spent with it was well worth the wait in lines. If it wasn’t included with the console I would still buy it.

Wii Time!!!!1one
Just a quick heads-up, I’m leaving now to head to the Nintendo Fusion Tour to play some Wii, and try to tune out some cruddy emo music. I’ll be playing Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Wii Sports, Warioware: Smooth Moves, Excitetruck, and Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam.
I’ll have media from the show up tomorrow, and begin my previews right when I get back. I believe that I will be the first ever to take a picture of the Wiimote, as a Wangmote…
So wish me luck that I don’t end up hitting myself in the head and passing out while playing Warioware!
